John Martin is a specialist teacher, qualified and experienced in teaching and supporting dyslexic students across a wide age range. He has worked as a SEN teacher for over 30 years. He set up and managed an Enhanced Provision for severe and complex dyslexic students in a mainstream comprehensive and has, latterly, been the SENCO. He was a member of the steering group for Liverpool’s Dyslexia Friendly Schools programme. For over 15 years John has supported the work of Liverpool Dyslexia Association. He has supported and guided students and families, assisted at and run workshops and has developed a family intervention programme with the association. |
Hilary Doody is a specialist teacher and the parent of a now grown-up son who is dyslexic. She has been involved through the voluntary sector in supporting other parents and dyslexic adults and working to change systems within education and other organisations for 16 years. As an active committee member of Liverpool Dyslexia Association she has helped to set up an adult support group; run drop-in advice sessions and the Helpline; run workshops for children and for parents and carers; organised conferences and events. Hilary is also committed to working at a strategic level aimed at making the SEN system more accessible to families. As an elected Trustee of the British Dyslexia Association she was instrumental in the development of the BDA Quality Mark for Dyslexia Friendly LEAs and Further Education and was a member of Liverpool’s Dyslexia Friendly Schools steering group for 5 years until 2007. |
